Reiki transformed my life. When I first encountered it, the practice was relatively unknown. Its profound impact - reconnecting me to myself and the world, bringing enduring joy and calm - was unlike anything I'd experienced. I became passionate about sharing Reiki's potential to positively change lives.
After years of dedicated practice and training under the same teacher, I sought affiliation with a supportive community. While Reiki remains unregulated, joining the UK Reiki Federation provided credibility, access to resources, and a sense of belonging.
Today, Reiki's popularity has grown significantly. I recently presented an introduction to Reiki to complementary therapists training in cancer care and life limiting conditions. This led to valuable discussions about the importance of clear communication, informed consent, and professional boundaries.
One recurring question was how to find a reputable Reiki practitioner. Affiliation with professional bodies like the UK Reiki Federation or Reiki Healing Association offers reassurance. Transparency about qualifications, insurance, and client testimonials is essential for building trust.
I'm concerned about the lack of regulation in Reiki. Some teachers compromise standards, offering multiple attunements or inadequate support. This can lead to negative experiences and can often turn these students off Reiki. This is true tragedy as the purpose of Reiki is to support first and foremost the student to their own self-care.
I prioritise comprehensive training, ongoing support, and ethical practice. By adhering to professional standards and fostering a strong Reiki community, we can safeguard the integrity of this transformative healing modality.
