FAQ

ChairQ: Why should I get a massage?

A: Life is inherently stressful when dealing with day-to-day family and work schedules, and tends to continually put us into the "fight or flight" alarm mode. When we load ourselves with overburdening stress, it becomes unhealthy and even deadly. Massage lessens stress, increases circulation, lowers blood pressure for a time, and gives an individual a general sense of well-being because of actual chemical changes in the brain during massage.

Q: Who gives the massage?

A: The massage therapists at our facility are individuals who have completed professional training (600 hours minimum). We are required by our profession to take Continuing Education courses to maintain and enhance the qualified therapies we practice.

Q: I've heard of several methods of massage. What kind of massage should I get?

A: At your first massage session, you will be asked to complete a client intake form which will give the therapist some indication of your health and present condition. You may indicate on the form areas in which you seem to hold more tension. From this information the therapist will be able to determine what method of massage would benefit you most. Most likely, your massage will consist of several different types ranging from Swedish which is very relaxing, to a modified Shiatsu with assisted stretching. No matter what method used, it is your massage not the therapist's and your input is valued.

TableQ: What will I wear during the massage?

A: Your comfort level is very important to us. It is our company policy that the client be modestly covered for the duration of the massage session. Your attire depends on the type of massage you are receiving. For most of your massage sessions you will be covered by a sheet on a massage table and only have an arm uncovered while the therapist is massaging that arm, or a leg while the therapist is working on the leg.

Q: They provide 15-minute Chair Massages at my place of employment. How does this compare with table massage?

A: A 15-minute seated massage is a very healthy option to a cigarette or coffee break. In this brief time period, muscle tension and the pain it causes is reduced; circulation is increased and the nervous system calmed. Just this 15-minute change of pace provides time so that the body and mind can relax and rejuvenate.

Q: Will my health care provider pay for massage?

A: At this time, we know of no health care insurance that will reimburse for massage therapy. We are fully qualified in our profession and would be more than happy to discuss the benefits of massage with your management team, your primary care provider, your health care insurance provider, or anyone else interested in enhancing the quality of life.
